The conference "WSED next!" will offer a platform both for presenting the work of young researchers and professionals as well as for interaction with experts and decision makers from industry and institutions. It will be held in the framework of the World Sustainable Energy Days 2012 (WSED12) conference.

Senior students, young researchers and young professionals were invited to submit contributions using the online submission form. Linked to the main topics of the WSED12, WSED next! will focus on the two topics: (1) biomass as well as (2) energy efficiency in buildings.

A scientific committee selected papers for oral or poster presentation.

The organiser of the WSED, the O.Ö. Energiesparverband, will cover the costs for accommodation, meals, participation and local transport for up to 60 selected participants for 3 conference days (arrival: 28 February, departure: 2 March).

The "WSED Next Award" will be presented to the "best contribution". The prize money will be 500 Euro.

A special issue of the international scientific journal "Biomass & Bioenergy" (Elsevier) with selected scientific papers presented at the WSED next! conference will be published!
Further details

FAQs - Frequently asked questions

What are the "WSED"?

The World Sustainable Energy Days (WSED) are an annual conference held at the beginning of March in Wels/Austria. With more than 800 participants every year, it is one of the largest annual conferences on sustainable energy in Europe. In the last 10 years, the conference attracted more than 10,000 participants from 99 countries!

Who is the target group?

The initiative targets at:

  • young researchers
  • students working on advanced degrees (e.g. master's degrees, PhD etc.)
  • young professionals

In addition to individuals, also groups from universities or research organisations can submit papers. In case of selection of papers, the organiser will support the participation of max. 3 students/young researchers & 1 R&D professional per selected paper. Papers submitted by groups should mainly be based on work carried out by senior students and/or young researchers.

How is the submission process organised?

Deadline for submission was 5 October 2011.

The submitted papers were selected by a scientific committee. Selected participants were notified by the conference organisers (in November/December 2011).

For those not selected, student fees for participation are available - see www.wsed.at -> Registration & Info

How much will it cost? How many will be selected?

The organiser of the WSED, the O.Ö. Energiesparverband, will cover the costs for accommodation, meals, participation and local transport for the selected participants for 3 conference days. The participants must cover their travel costs.

What is included in the participation for selected papers?

  • oral or poster presentation of their paper
  • participation in all events of the WSED12 conference:
    • the European Pellet Conference
    • the conference "Nearly zero energy buildings"
