Increasing the use of local renewable energy sources in rural areas offers the possibility to reduce fossil fuel consumption and to avoid costly energy imports.
It also leads to the development of new professions (farmers as "energy entrepreneurs") as well as new businesses which create jobs in innovative sectors.
Successful renewable energy / energy efficiency projects depend on the exitstence of regional structures (e.g. networks), that organise, co-ordinate and coach the regional actors. Regional market places as a new instrument can promote the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency by bringing together suppliers and potential end-users and / or investors come to exchange experiences, and find solutions for the use of renewable energies and energy efficient measures in their region.
A growing number of rural communities is using renewable energy sources and benefits from the economic advantages of sustainable energy use.
This event is organised in the frame of the IEE-project "RES market places".
